If President Buhari or the ruling party (APC) hope to control Aso Rock post-2019 general elections, then Rivers State is very crucial for that plan.
Why is this so? Rivers State can give Lagos State a run for its money.
Together with Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, and Delta States, their state funds are crucial to winning general elections.
That is why APC plans to win the legislative rerun elections in Rivers State by all means.
APC wants to capture the 3 senatorial districts, 8 federal constituencies, and 10 state constituencies on Saturday.
APC is banking on its winning formula she deployed in Edo and Ondo governorship elections.
The Presidency has also deployed resources to check Governor Nyesom Wike.
Part of that strategy was the withdrawal of his chief security officer and security aides of other politicians in the state.
APC is aware that Governors Wike and Ayodele Fayose are behind the formation of the new mega party.
Preparatory to the re-run polls in Rivers State, INEC has deployed an astonishing 10,294 personnel for the elections.
In the interim, the PDP accused the ruling party and Rotimi Amaechi of plotting to use security agencies to intimidate Wike.
“If anything happens to the governor Chief Nyesom Wike, Nigerians should hold Amaechi and his party leaders responsible.
“The constitution is very clear on the grounds by which the security of a sitting governor can be withdrawn.
“This is a big slap on our constitution,” PDP said.
APC countered stating that “The report by Governor Wike and the PDP alleging the withdrawal of Wike’s security aides is a lie.
“Their claims on assassination threat on the governor is a hoax.
“Nobody is after Wike.
“The governor and his party are aware that they will lose the legislative re-run elections once security is tightened.
“Nigerians recall how Wike, then a PDP minister, used federal institutions to harass and intimidated Rotimi Amaechi.”
If APC wins all seats, the next plan will be to commence impeachment proceedings on Wike.
