President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered the Nigerian police to commence immediate investigation to his chief of staff.
The investigation is conducted by the Special Investigation Panel at the Nigerian Police Force Headquarters.
President Buhari’s chief of staff, Alhaji Abba Kyari, is being investigated over bribery allegations.
The Presidency directed the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to investigate an alleged N500million bribe, said to have been paid to the Chief of Staff by MTN.
Sahara Reporters broke the news of how Abba Kyari took N500million from MTN as kickbacks to stall their investigation.
The largess was given to Kyari, to use his closeness with the President to give MTN a safe landing.
Recall that Nigeria’s telecoms regulator, slammed a MTN with a fine of $5 billion dollars.
The fine was due to MTN’s inability to disconnect subscribers with unregistered phone lines bought before January, 2012.
MTN had gone to court to challenge the hefty fine. They later back pedaled and withdrew the litigation.
As a pointer to the anti-corruption crusade of President Buhari, the panel has been given the green light to carry out a holistic probe and come out with findings regarding the accusation.
