Pastor Enouch Adejare Adeboye has retired as the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Nigeria.
The General Overseer, popularly called Daddy GO, removed himself as the church’s GO.
He announced the decision on Saturday morning and will be replaced by Pastor Joseph Obayemi.
Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye remains the General Overseer of RCCG, Worldwide.
The Nigerian Church is now to be led by Pastor Joseph Obayemi.
The development follows a new legal requirement set up by the Financial Regulations Council guiding all registered churches, mosques, and CSOs.
The regulation stipulates that heads of nonprofit organizations like churches now have a maximum period of 20 years to lead their organizations.
The regulation also stipulates that while in retirement, they are not permitted to hand over to family members.
In other words, Pastor E.A Adeboye remains the General Overseer of RCCG Worldwide.
But this throws up other questions: will RCCG in other nations also have General overseers, since Obayemi is now the GO of the Nigerian church?
The church is yet to make clarifications on these new developments.
The newly appointed GO was the former Special Assistant to the General Overseer (SATGO) on Finance.
Adeboye also appointed Pastor Johnson Odesola, who was the Special Assistant on Administration and Personnel, as the church Secretary.
In 1981, Adeboye was appointed General Overseer of the church.
For three years he performed the role part-time, still lecturing at Ilorin. He finally gave up his university position to preach full-time
