Donald Pence Trump is officially the 45th president of the United States of America.

Trump surprised political analysts as he beat his closest rival, Hillary Rodham Clinton in a hotly contested presidential election.

Trump won the key swing states of Florida, North Carolina and Ohio early this morning, as he marched towards the White House.

The Republican exceeded expectations and confounded pollsters in Florida, where Hillary Clinton had been expected to win following a surge in the Hispanic vote.

Mrs. Rodham Hillary Clinton hoped for a hasty victory faded as the Republican picked up a series of states early on and maintained his momentum.

Trump’s unexpected success in Florida was backed up by wins in the key states of Ohio, North Carolina and Pennsylvania.

Hillary Clinton managed to win the battlegrounds of Virginia and Colorado, but she needed to take Michigan, Nevada, Iowa and Pennsylvania to have any chance.

Meanwhile, French far-right leader Marine Le Pen has congratulated Donald Trump already.

Le Pen tweeted: “Congratulations to the new president of the United States Donald Trump and to the free American people”.
