Senator Dino Melaye finally came clean on what transpired between him and Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
Narrating his side of the altercation that transpired at a senate plenary, Dino denied making some statements being accredited to him.
Reports making round had it that Dino verbally abused Senators Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu.
A statement credited to Dino is this: “Look this is not Bourdillon. I will beat you up, ….. impregnate you and nothing will happen.”
At a press conference yesterday, Dino said he did not say he’d impregnate Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, seeing she has hit menopause.
“How could I have said I would beat and impregnate her at the same time?” Dino asked.
Dino however agreed he tongue lashed Mrs. Tinubu but did not elaborate on the harsh words he used against her.
He said he his anger was what provoked the tongue lashing. “I did it because I am not a coward.”
Tuesday’s fight at the senate floor began when Dino prayed the senate to go hard on senators who offered to profer witness in the ongoing forgery trial of Bukola Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu.
Dino had stated that “You should go and tell those who sent you that nobody, I said nobody, no matter who he is, can ever control this Senate.”
Dino was reported to be pointing at senators whom he believed were to withness against Saraki and Ekweremadu.
In her response to Dino, Mrs. Tunubu said “I’m just wondering why whenever Senator Dino speaks in this chamber, he is always threatening people and behaving childishly and at times like a thug.
“I think he needs to know that every senator here represents their constituencies. And that there is no need to threaten anyone.
“We are seeking and working towards reconciliation, yet you are busy issuing threats.”
Angered by Mrs. Tinubu’s statement, Dino reportedly became animated, jumped from his seat and charged towards Mrs. Tinubu.
“Look, this is not Bourdillon (apparently in reference to Ahmed Tinubu, husband). I will beat you up, impregnate you and nothing will happen.”
Other senators, particularly of the South-extraction, shielded Mrs. Tinubu from attack, and then calmed her down.
A few other senators also prevailed on Mr. Melaye to take it easy and let peace reign, sources said.
