PDP’s Board of Trustees will be convening an emergency meeting slated to hold today in Abuja.
The meeting will be presided over by the Chairman of the Board, Senator Walid Jibrin.
Our sources revealed that top on the agenda of the meeting is a discussion on the Professor Jerry Gana Peace Committee.
The committee was set up to resolve the leadership tussle rocking the party.
The report of the committee was submitted to the board two days before the last national convention of the party that was ruined by members of the Nigerian police force.
Gana and other 17 members of the committee had suggested that the convention be held in Abuja.
They also advised that that both Sheriff and Ahmed Makarfi be allowed to play a major role there.
The committee had recommended that a convention planning committee be reconstituted to have nominations from both sides
The report advised that “Both Senator Ahmed Makarfi and Senator Ali Modu Sheriff [should be allowed] to address the national convention.
“Senator Ahmed Makarfi [should] declare the convention open as convention chairman and Senator Sheriff to hand over to the new chairman after the elections.
The report also advised that both Markafi and Sheriff should “Co-chair the convention Planning Committee; ensure a credible, transparent and superbly organized convention to produce highly qualified and suitable national officers through a process of free, fair and highly credible elections.
“Party’s national convention to be shifted from Port Harcourt to Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, but the convention should still hold on Wednesday, August 17, 2016.”
None of the recommendations was accepted by the National Convention Committee led by the Governor Nyesom Wike.
The Meeting will also brainstorm how the current chairmanship tussle will be eternally resolved between Sheriff and Makarfi’s factions.
