The internet went berserk when pictures of an emaciated nine years old boy, who was chained, surfaced over the weekend.

The boy was rescued by both the Nigerian Police Force and the Civil Defense Corps.

Following a tip off, “The police operatives of the Command attached to Onipanu Division, Otta, rescued one Korede Taiwo.

“He had been chained on his neck to a heavy log of wood in a room by his biological father, Pastor Taiwo Francis.

The boy allegedly stole soup (repeatedly) prepared by his stepmother which on reporting to his father, the celestial pastor fastened him to a log of wood for weeks.

According to a statement by the public relations officer of the Ogun State NSCDC, the boy’s ordeal began when his step mother “Reported to the Father who took step by chaining his hand and legs.

“This situation was on like that until a Good Samaritan informed NSCDC officials.

“On surveillance patrol of critical infrastructure in the area, they immediately swung into action and ensured the boy was immediately rescued,” the corps said.

“According to the information from officer in charge of Ado-Odo NSCDC Division, the boy had been chained for two weeks.

“This was at the very Celestial Church of Christ (Key of Joy Parish).

“The boy was tired and pale. He was not able to talk when he was initially rescued.

“On getting to the church there was serious resistance by members led by the pastor’s wife Kehinde.

“However, Civil Defense Corps men insisted to gain entrance into the premises.

“They were able to force their way into the church premises.

“The boy was actually under lock and key.

“They quickly took him to the office for necessary entries and documentation and proceeded to the General Hospital, Ota.

“The boy was given a bath and one Dr. Akintunde asked NSCDC officials who took him there to give him lucosade boost.

“A welder had to be called in to set the boy free the chains.

“Before NSCDC left the hospital, he was already responding to treatment as he has started talking.
