Senator Wamako opposes building of Kano-Kaduna railway

Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko has described the Buhari led government’s plan to build the Kano-Kaduna railways as wasteful and misplacement of priorities.

Senator Wamako condemned the FG’s plan to build a 1.2 billion dollars standard gauge railway from Kano to Kaduna.

He said that amount of money can rebuild all the Federal highways in the North West zone.

Wamakko, said all the states in the region including Kano and Kaduna are suffering due to the dilapidated nature of inter-state roads in the region.

“Why build a Kano-Kaduna rail line that will not have a lot of goods to carry?”

“It will ease the movement of goods and save dozens of lives that are being lost daily to the poor state of the roads.”

Wamakko also said the money could additionally help to resuscitate the region’ comatose industries and provide millions of jobs.

Minister of Transport, Mr. Rotimi Amechi, disclosed FG’s approval of the said 1.2 billion rail construction project.

Amaechi said the FG was negotiating with China EXIM bank to finance the project.
