Rotimi Akeredolu’s (SAN) emergence as the APC governorship tore Ondo State chapter of the party into factions.
On one side of the divide is Atiku, Bola Tinubu and his preferred candidate Dr. Segun Abraham.
On the other side is President Buhari, APC chairman John Oyegun, Rotimi Akeredolu and their perks.
Rotimi won that party primaries because of President Buhari’s backing.
The outcome of the primaries was rejected by Abraham and Tinubu, leading to the creation of an Appeal Committee.
The Appeal Panel recommended the cancellation of the primaries, which Akeredolu won, citing irregularities as reason.
Some members of the National Working Committee (NWC) including the National Chairman of the APC, Chief John Odigie Oyegun, ignored the recommendation.
Oyegun then submitted Akeredolu’s name to INEC as the governorship candidate of the party in the Ondo election.
Their action prompted a verbal warfare between Tinubu and Oyegun.
To further humiliate Tinubu and his group, on President Buhari’s advice, Rotimi has chosen Hon. Agboola Ajayi as his running mate.
His choice has generated a new crisis in the Ondo State chapter of the APC.
Reacting to Akeredolu’s choice, one APC chieftain. Bola Ilori, said “Even when the NWC just upheld the fraudulent primary that produced Akeredolu, the nexus of fraud in the party is trying to perpetrate another fraud to enforce the initial fraud.
“We are yet to settle the issue of fake delegates and delegates’ list padding that produced Akeredolu as the candidate.
“Now they have orchestrated yet another fraud by foisting deputy governor on us.
“Why do these people hate Ondo State APC this much?
“Why would they cut their noses to spite their faces just because of hatred for Tinubu?
“Why must they be jumping from one fraud to another?
“From delegates’ list padding to NWC decision padding to now certificate padding, loan padding,” Bola lamented.
Sensing the ripple effect of the Akeredolu’s brouhaha, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Mr. Timi Frank, has again pleaded with Buhari to urgently intervene in the feud between Tinubu and Oyegun.
The ultimate aim in these maneuverings is to permanently silence Tinubu and Atiku.
Will Tinubu agree to be silenced? Will the Jagaban go back to the drawing table and re-strategize?
