His royal highness, Emir Sanusi Lamido has recently grown vocal about the situation in the country.
Just last week, Emir Sanusi threw his weight behind the over a major policy disagreement with the Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun, on interest rate.
His statement obviously irked some interests in the Senate as former Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Rowland Owie, tool the Emir to the cleaners.
Owie wants Emir Sanusi to abdicate the throne and go into politics.
According to Owie, Emirs are not supposed to air their view on political and economic discourse.
Well, that stands logic in the head.
Hear him: “The Emir should know that he is no longer the CBN governor.
“I urge him to stop playing to gallery with national issues and emulate dignified and respectable emirs like the Emir of Dutse.
“He is a grade one Traditional Ruler. He has direct access to President Buhari. He should call him directly and advise him instead of doing it in the media.
“He should behave as a father and true traditional ruler now.
“If he cannot contain himself, he should abdicate the throne and go into politics.”
Recall that Emir Sanusi threw his weight behind the CBN over a major policy disagreement with the Finance Minister on interest rate.
The Emir said if the MPR was lowered even by 200 bases points, it would not increase credit from banks into the economy.
He argued that due to constraining factors, a lower MPR would imply lower yields on money market instruments.
He said this would exert a negative pull on investors’ willingness to inject funds into the economy, especially in the fixed income security segment.
The net effect would be a restraint on foreign portfolio investment inflows.
Here is the question: what was wrong in Emir Sanusi’s analysis?
Senator Owie is an obviously burned politician who resents losing his feeding bottle.
