EXPOSED: This was the presidential scandal that got us in trouble

During the last presidential elections, President Muhammadu Buhari laundered his image as a ‘poor man’.

Nigerians saw their would be president drinking tea with cowbell milk and sachet milo.

President Buhari also told Nigerians he owned 150 cows. Nigerians saw in him a president that would better their lots, since he too was ‘poor’.

It worked!

President Buhari discreetly ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria to his image abroad.

On the face level, there may be nothing wrong with this since former President Goodluck Jonathan did it.

Goodluck Jonathan had squandered $3 million dollars in a bid to have the Americans come around and sell us weapons.

It failed. All that money vamoosed.

Enters President Muhammadu Buhari.

He too has engaged APCO Worldwide Inc., a political consultancy firm based in Washington DC, to help launder his image.

Between 2013 and date, Nigeria has spent over $6 million dollars to help launder the country’s image abroad.

Investigations by Codex News into US department of Justice Database revealed that such contracts did exist.

Nigerian governments have serially used these channels as conduits for siphoning and wasting tax payer’s funds.

For instance, in September 2013, the News Agency of Nigerian, NAN, paid $1.5 million PR contract to Levick Strategic Communications, a Washington – based PR firm.

Buhari made an initial deposit of N33 million to APCO to negotiate wider media relations, stakeholder engagement, and strategic communications services for him in USA.

The questions this news house wants to ask are these:

  1. Why is President Muhammadu seeking to launder his image abroad? We thought he was already doing by his defeat of Boko Haram.
  2. When did the Central bank of Nigeria become the image launderer for Buhari? Is this not Lai Mohammed’s job and the ministry of information?
  3. Also, what will the Buhari administration benefit from a three-month image laundering job in the US?

According to the law, which President Buhari swore to uphold, contracts like these requires public advertorial in at least two widely read national dailies.

None of these was done.

FARA was enacted in 1938. President Buhari’s handlers are aware of this.

FARA is a disclosure statute that requires persons acting as agents of foreign principals in a political or quasi-political capacity to make periodic public disclosure of their relationship with the foreign principal.

In our context, APCO was mandated by law to disclose its relationship with Nigeria and the Central Bank.

The act requires that activities, receipts and disbursements in support of those activities be made public.

Disclosure of the required information facilitates evaluation by the government and the American people.

It keeps an eye on the activities of such persons in light of their function as foreign agents.

One Adesida Adelekan signed the agreement on behalf of Davebrook. When contacted, he denied knowledge of such agreement.

The CBN also declined to comment claiming they have no knowledge of the existence of such PR contracts.

This then begs the question: What is the Buhari administration hiding from Nigerians?

All documents, including the amount paid by the CBN is captured in the contractual agreement.

Another curious thing is that the US company (APCO) executing the project also refused to comment on the deal.

The contract document itself was filed domiciled with the US Department of Justice as required by law.

This news house retrieved all the documents relating to the contract from and are hereunder reproduced (with links).

Here are all links and proofs to the said contract including the agreements.
