The General Aviation Terminal (GAT) of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos was sent into a frenzy when a gunshot was heard inside the terminal.
The United States Mission in Nigeria had warned of possible terror attack this week.
The US Mission statement stated that said “The U.S. Mission in Nigeria advises that groups associated with terrorist activity might be planning attacks.
“The attacks may be aimed against hotels in Lagos frequented by international visitors, including those located on waterfronts.
“The U.S. Mission in Nigeria reminds you to review your personal security plans.
“Remain aware of your surroundings, including local events, and monitor local news stations for updates.
“Be vigilant and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security,” the statement read.
After tension was doused, an investigation of the source of gunshot was ascertained.
An orderly of a Senator wanted to remove the magazine of his gun and there was ‘accidental discharge.’
The accidental discharge injured him and another woman.
The security detail, billed travel on an Arik Air flight wanted to lodge his gun. The procedure is standard practice on air travel.
The gun released a bullet that hit both him and another woman. Both victims were hit in the leg.
Eye witnesses reports that both injured passengers were rushed to a hospital at the airport.
The injuries are not severe, our reporters gathered.
Reacting to the incidence, the General Manager, Public Affairs of FAAN, Mr. Yakubu Dati, confirmed the incident.
Yakubu stated that what happened was an accident.
“Stowing guns away with its magazine is a standard procedure because guns were not taken on-board aircraft; they were usually checked in the luggage compartment.”
Yakubu further assured travelers that the airport was safe.
One question begging to answer is this: How can they explain why a Senator’s security detail would travel with a loaded gun out of the country?
Remember this: The orderly was to travel with the Senator, with a loaded gun!
Something is fishy here.
This is an international airport terminal for crying out loud. If the report had stated that the security detail went to welcome his principal, the gist would carry some traction.
But this? We don’t buy it.
