Jonathan, Attahiru Jega & Buhari to meet tomorrow

Former president Goodluck Jonathan; former INEC chairman, Attahiru Jega; and President Muhamadu Buhari will be meeting tomorrow.

This will be the first time the major players in the 2015 general elections would be meeting under one roof in Abuja.

The meeting will be chaired by former head of state, Retired General Abdulsalami Abubakar.

The meeting/event is organized by Leadership Newspaper to honor the trio in their promotion of democracy in Nigeria and Africa at large.

“It was not an easy decision for the Board of Editors of Leadership who voted for the trio.

“The choice of President Buhari was made to honor him for making history by being the first opposition candidate to defeat a sitting president after three attempts.

“In the case of former President Jonathan, he would be recognized for achieving the improbable.

“The principal reason being for conceding defeat in an election in which he was a contestant – a first for Nigeria.

“The former INEC boss is to be honored for his courage, doggedness and fairness even in the face of threats to his life in the conduct of the 2015 elections.

“This feat gave him a global acclaim.”

The Leadership Newspaper editorial team chose the three leaders as the Persons of the Year 2015.

The statement from the newspaper says that Buhari, Jonathan and Jega have already confirmed their participation in the annual awards event.
