Lagos State is the commercial nerve center of Nigeria. It has been severally described as the economic capital of Africa.
Lately, all seem not to be well with Eko city as Niger Delta Militants have increased their operations in the State.
Lagos State have also witnessed increased clashes between Yourbas and Hausas/Fulanis.
The latest clash happened yesterday (Tuesday) as fight broke out between between Hausas and Yourbas.
The scene is White Sand community in Ijora Badia area of Lagos State.
Trouble stated when a man simply identified as Ojo was said to be waylaid by some Hausa boys and stabbed to death.
The attack sparked a riot during which both Hausas and Yorubas wielded dangerous weapons on each other.
Following the fight, some customs officers attached to the Federal Operations Zone A, Ikeja, came to douse tension.
The hoodlums turned the fight on Custom officers.
In the ensuing fight, three persons were left dead and a custom officer severely injured.
On investigation, the Hausas complained that Ojo had been terrorizing the area which led them to confront him.
Houses and shops were demolished during the riot.
While the demolition was ongoing, some Customs officers stormed the community in three patrol vehicles at about 2.30p.m.
The hoodlums were said to have resisted the Customs men who tried to stop the carnage.
In a bid to scare the rampaging youths, the officers fired live bullets which resulted in three deaths.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmus, confirmed the incidence.
According to Badmus, “The police and customs were on a joint operation of raiding black spots within the community and arresting suspected criminals yesterday.
“In the process, some officers of the Nigerian Customs Service, who were with officials of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, had an encounter with some of the hoodlums.
“They fired some shots and three people were hit.
“As a result, one death was recorded, while two others are receiving treatment in the hospital.
“Policemen are not involved,” she said.
Meanwhile, residents insists three persons died.
In a related development, men suspected to be militants raided Fatoki, Obadore and Egan, in Igando area of Lagos, yesterday carting away valuables.
The attack was immediately followed by a shootout between the militants and policemen from the Igando Police Division.
One eye witness stated that “Apart from carting away food stuffs, they stole generators, televisions, laptops and refrigerators.”
These attacks never used to happen in Lagos State and has been on a steady rise.
