Niger Delta Avengers’ website taken down

Militancy in the oil rich Niger Delta took an upward surge following defeat of Goodluck Jonathan in the last presidential elections.

The new face of militancy is the Niger Delta Avengers, NDA. The group is somewhat tech savvy playing host to Facebook page, twitter handle and a website.

Their website, was an avenue through the group communicated their next target. Checks by this media house showed that the website has been brought down.

Search showed a 404 error. According to google, when someone requests a page that doesn’t exist, a server will return a 404 (not found) error.

This HTTP response code clearly tells both browsers and search engines that the page doesn’t exist. As a result, the content of the page (if any) won’t be crawled or indexed by search engines.

The requested URL was not found on their server. We cannot immediately ascertain whether the website was taken down by NDA or if the Nigerian Government has a hand in it.

However, NDA’s twitter handle and Facebook page is still up and running. NDA is yet to make any statement regarding the downed status of their website.
