Oshiomhole hands over to Obaseki but remains in government houses

Former governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, ended his administration yesterday.

He formally handed over the administration to Governor Godwin Obaseki.

However, few days before he left office, Oshiomhole submitted a budget of N5 billion naira to the state of Assembly.

He also promoted 4 loyalists of his from directors to permanent secretaries.

Also, the former governor commuted the death sentences of four persons to life imprisonment.

Oshiomhole also granted pardon to two persons, a boy and a girl who impersonated him and his wife on Facebook in 2011.

Both of them were arrested and the boy was sentenced to seven years imprisonment. The girl’s trial was still ongoing.

Oshiomhole also attended to heap of files on his desk before performing the swearing in of the four Permanent Secretaries.

Oshiomhole revealed that it was Obaseki that actually first asked him to contest for the governorship many years ago.

He recalled how Obaseki told him about the need to rescue Edo State and he replied four years later that he was ready.

“People say I will influence Obaseki but in truth he has been influencing me.

“In all of the eight years, he has been the brain box of this administration. God gave me the courage to get things done.

“The more I work with Godwin, the more I saw his commitment to transparency.

“Obaseki is a prudent manager of resources and this helped us deliver our landmark projects.

“He gets me to sign processed memos I had refused to sign.

“He introduced people I never met and get me to appoint them as commissioners.

“He is more familiar with the documents and knows what need to be done.”

He is however yet to pack out of the official lodge of the State Government.
