Police arraign 7 years old boy for conspiracy

The Nigerian police in Enugu today (Friday) arraigned a seven-year-old boy.

The boy, Chibuike Miracle Oramalu, was paraded before a court, for a purported [neutralization].

The boy, who is a primary two school pupil had on May 29, accidentally shot another boy.

The shot [neutralized] the 12 year old, Oluebube Boniface, on the spot.

The gun belonged to one Mr. Edwin Oforma.

Mr. Oforma employed Chibuike’s mother as a cleaner and housekeeper in his house.

The incident occurred in the Independence Layout area of Enugu.

Chibuike pulled the trigger after discovering the gun in Oforma’s room.

It was alleged that the 7 year old was instructed by Mr. Oforma’s son to make the bed in one of his father’s room.

Chibuike was detained from May 30 till July 13, by Enugu State police command.

Chibuike’s mom and an NGO, Civil Rights Realization and Advancement Network, had raised the alarm over the little boy’s detention, the Enugu State Police Command claimed he was in “protective custody”.

Recall that following the incident, an angry mob stormed Oforma’s house and were about to lynch the 7 year old and his mom.

The police rushed to the scene and intervened.

Addressing journalists, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State, Mr. Emmanuel Ojukwu said, “The community rallied round to kill the boy.

“We already lost one person owing to that unfortunate incident.

“We didn’t want to lose another person.

“We also protected the house because the angry residents wanted to set it (oforma’s house) ablaze.

“As we speak, policemen are still guarding the compound.

“We don’t want to lose another life or property,” Ojukwu said.

Two weeks after his release, Chibuike was arraigned before an Enugu judge over a purported conspiracy and murder.

He was arraigned alongside Oforma on the grounds that the later own the gun.

The charge sheet claimed that both Chibuike and Oforma conspired among themselves to [neutralize] someone.
