Jose Mourinho is barely hours to fulfilling his dream of managing Manchester United which he over looked some years back after cherry picking Chelsea ahead of the Red devils job. This development came after Louis van Gaal’s uneasy two-year under-performing reign at Old Trafford came to a bitter end.
Van Gaal said he was “very disappointed” to be sacked on Monday just 48 hours after leading United to victory in the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace.
Missing out on a lucrative Champions League spot has been said to be what provided the paper works for his sack.
Van Gaal however has cleared out his desk at United’s Carrington training ground after talks over a settlement for the final year of his three-year contract, which had been worth a reported £6.4 million per year ($9.2 million, 8.2 million euros).
The coast is now clear for former Chelsea manager Mourinho to be confirmed as the new United boss. The 53-year-old will hope to restore his reputation by restoring the sparkle to United’s own tarnished image.
Mourinho was dismissed by Chelsea in December after a miserable campaign marred by a series of rifts with the club’s star players that left the club languishing at the relegation zone for weeks.
The “Special one’ who has had a magnificent coaching career that so far featured 21 major trophies, including three Premier League crowns and two Champions League titles is determined to take back the rein of excellence on his return to the premier league.
However, he has a new look premier league to contend with ,which includes Zero to Heroes Leicester United, record breaking New Manchester City Coach Pep Guardiola and also the yet to be convinced Manchester United fans that he can take them to the top with tactical and attacking system of football.
Former United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel believes Mourinho is the right man to get the club back on track.
Mourinho is expected to bring Faria and goalkeeping coach Silvino Louro with him to Old Trafford, and may also have to deal with doubt from the United squad after a report that some senior players have already expressed concern the tactically conservative coach might prove too similar to Van Gaal.
Player on Mourinho’s wanted list are Paris Saint Germain forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Sporting Lisbon midfielder Joao Mario, Everton defender John Stones, Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic and Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann .
If Mourinho can rebuild the confidence of his squad and reignite the thunder at Old Trafford by bringing Manchester United back to their winning ways which they last had in 2013, then this can be regarded his finest achievement.
