Turai Yar’ Adua throws Emir’s son into prison for theft

The family of late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua were shocked to notice that a house keeper who served them for 40 years had robbed them.

The Police Command in Katsina State said she arrested a 60-year-old Alhaji Yusuf Sarkin-gida for making away with goods worth over N90 million naira.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Usman Abdullahi, disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Katsina State.

“The Nigerian Police have arrested Alhaji Yusuf Sarkin-gida after a formal complaint by Hajiya Turai Yar’Adua to the police two weeks ago.

“The suspect is the custodian of all the keys and property of Hajiya Turai Yar’Adua for the past 40 years.

“There are 37 boxes in the custody of the suspect, but only 27 boxes are in the store.

“The several items in the 27 boxes are completely missing and the suspect has failed to give full explanation on the goods and items in the boxes,” Abdullahi said.

The police commissioner said the suspect had been serving the late Umar Yar’Adua family for over 40 years.

This means the house keeper served late Yar’ Adua even before Yar’ Adua became governor and later the President of Nigeria.

Abdullahi said the suspect was in police custody and he is assisting them to conduct intensive investigation on the missing items.

When contacted, the Sarkin-gida’s family, Alhaji Mohammed Yusuf, said their father was innocent of the charges levelled against him.

He said the arrest and detention of their father before the Eld-el-Kabir celebration had thrown the family into confusion.

He appealed to human rights organizations to come to the rescue of their father.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Salisu Agaisa, made the disclosure in Katsina on Tuesday at a news conference.
