Unical students beat up Governor Ayade’s aide

An aide to the Cross Rivers State governor, Mr. Michael Abuo, was on Monday beaten to the pulp by Unical students.

The crowded rounded up Mr. Abuo for allegedly withholding N300,000 that was disbursed for students’ mobilization.

The beating happened at the U.J Esuene Stadium in Calabar during a reception/celebration of Governor Ayade’s Supreme Court victory.

The Unical students were joined by other students and numbered over 100.

They were reportedly aggrieved that Abuo had cornered the N300,000 which the governor promised them as part of the victory celebration.

Governor Ayade was reported to have doled out N1m each to his 29 commissioners and aides.

The fund was to mobilize the people for the victory celebration in Calabar.

Mr. Abuo took to his heels when the crowd of students overpowered him.

He jumped over the stadium fence into the hands of the Police who rescued him and scared off the students.

One of the students from the Unical said they had appealed to the aide to release the fund, but he refused.

The student said, “We got the information from a reliable source that the governor approved N300,000 for us.

“The money was for mobilization. But the greedy man refused to release the money.

“We are over 200 that came from different parts of the state for this celebration.

“Instead of releasing the money, he became infuriated when we confronted him.

“He has been short-changing us for too long.”

When contacted by telephone, Abuo said the attack was sponsored.

He, however, denied that he squandered the students’ financial entitlements.
